JOSEPH FUCHS

Joseph Fuchs, 70, who had been clerk of the town of Goetz since it was organized 29 years ago, died at his farm home, north of Cadott, yesterday afternoon.

Mr. Fuchs was born March 13, 1872, in Czechoslovakia and came to the United States when 17 years of age. He was married to Miss Anna Sauer in Chicago on July 3, 1897, and in 1902 they moved to the Cadott country where they have since resided.

Surviving are his wife, two sons, Charles and Frank, both of the town of Goetz, three daughters, Mrs. Lillian Capek of the town of Arthur, Mrs. Mary Novotney of Goetz and Mrs. Helen Vlach of the town of Arthur. Two sons and two daughters preceded him in death. Also surviving are two brothers, Charles of Chicago and Edward of Fulda, Minn., and two sisters, Mrs. Anton Zeman and Mrs. Charles Chlumecky, both of Chicago.

Mr. Fuchs, in addition to having been town clerk had also been school clerk and was an ardent worker in the Czechoslovakian National Alliance.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at the Bohemian hall under the auspices of the Z.C.B.J., with Rev. George Fisher of Bloomer officiating. Interment will take place in the Bohemian cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the Westin Funeral Home in Cadott until Friday afternoon, when they will be taken to the family residence. Pallbearers will be Frithjof Larson, William Lyden, James Michal, Ludwig Cuhel, Oscar Sobola, and Rudolph Kure.

Joseph Fuchs, aged 70, clerk of the town of Goetz the past 29 years, passed away suddenly at his home five miles north of Cadott at 1:45 Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Fuchs had been in poor health for the past two months and had recently undergone an operation at the hospital. But he had rallied somewhat and was preparing to go to Chippewa Falls on business when death came.

Joseph Fuchs was born in Czechoslovakia, March 13, 1872 and came to America at the age of 17. He located in Chicago where his marriage to Anna Sauer occurred on July 3, 1897. In 1902, they came to Cadott and settled on the farm in the town of Goetz where he has resided ever since.

Mr. Fuchs was a highly respected citizen, a loyal American, a true friend and neighbor and his sudden death is a severe shock, not only to his family, but the entire community as well.

Mr. Fuchs has served as town clerk of the town of Goetz ever since the division of the town of Sigel, at which time the town of Goetz was formed, and also served as clerk of School District No. 9 of Goetz for several years. He was an active member and served as president of the Z.C.B.J. Lodge of Drywood. He was also an active member of the Czechoslovakian National Alliance and was always willing to be helpful in any cause to relieve the suffering inflicted upon the people of his native land since the German invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1938.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons and three daughters. They are Charles and Frank, Mrs. Lillian Capek, Mrs. Mary Novotney and Mrs. Robert Vlach, all of this community. He was preceded in death by two sons, Albert, who died at age 12 and his twin, who died in infancy; two daughters, one in infancy and Anna who passed away at age 25 in 1925.

Surviving also are two brothers, Charles of Chicago, Edward of Fulda, Minn.; and two sisters, Mrs. Anton Zeman and Mrs. Edward Chlumecky, both of Chicago.

The remains will lie in state at the Cadott Funeral Home until Friday afternoon when they will be taken to the home. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon with services in the Bohemian Hall at 2:30. Rev. George T. Fisher, pastor of the Bloomer and Eagleton Lutheran Churches will officiate and interment will be in the Bohemian Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Frithjof Larson, Wm. Lyden, James Michal, Ludwig Cuhel, Oscar Sobola and Rudolph Kure.

Funeral of Joseph
Fuchs Held Saturday

The funeral of the late Joseph Fuchs was held at the Bohemian Hall in Drywood at 2:30 Saturday afternoon.  Services were conducted by Rev. George Fisher of Bloomer and were largely attended by neighbors and friends, attesting to the high esteem in which Mr. Fuchs was held by all.

During the services, Rev. Fisher sang "Nearer My God To Thee" and "Goin' Home", accompanied by Mrs. Fisher, and a trio composed of Mrs. Wm. Roshell, Mrs. Rudolph Vlasnik and Mrs. Eugene Turecek, sang two Bohemian songs.  Mr. Wm. Buresh spoke for the Z.C.B.J. Lodge.

Out of town relatives who attended the funeral are as follows: Mr. Edw. Fuchs of Fulda, Minn.; Chas. Fuchs, Mrs. Chas. Chlumecky, Mr. Anton Zeman, Mr. Jos. Sauer, Mr. John Sauer, of Chicago; James Fuchs of Hillsboro, Wis.
