Helen Josephine Vlach

EAU CLAIRE — Helen Josephine Vlach, 97, of Cadott passed away on Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at Sacred Heart hospital in Eau Claire, of complications resulting from a fall in her home on Christmas day.

She was born on May 22, 1911, at the family farm home in the township of Goetz. She graduated from Chap Creek school in the town of Goetz.

Helen married Robert Vlach on June 14, 1934, who preceded her in death on Sept. 19, 1981.

Surviving both is their daughter Shirley Vlach, a retired rug weaver.

Helen is the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Sauer) Fuchs the seventh of nine children, all of whom preceded her in death. The names of her siblings (in order of birth) are: Lillian Capek, Anna Fuchs, Mary Novotney, Josephine Fuchs, Charles Fuchs, Frank Fuchs, Helen Vlach and twins John and Albert Fuchs. The only surviving sister in law is Elsie Fuchs of Buffalo, Minn. She is also survived by: several nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.

Helen farmed in the town of Arthur with her husband until his death. Afterward she had a house built in Cadott and moved there with her daughter. She was active and a honorary member in the Western Bohemian Insurance Society (ZCBJ is the Czech acronym) and a few years ago presented a ZCBJ award at her home. For many years she provided kolache (a Czech tart) for many of the meal functions at the Bohemian Hall. She was a life time member of Creswood Home Makers, the 500 Club and also the Pincole Club.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday Jan. 3, 2009, at the Leiser Funeral Home in Cadott with Rev. George Olinske officiating. Interment will take place in the spring in the Bohemian National Cemetery in the town of Arthur.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of services Saturday at the Leiser Funeral Home.
